What is the District #308 Junior High School Fine Arts Festival?
Goals & Purpose:
To provide a quality performance venue for the junior high musical ensembles.
To provide an opportunity for students and directors to hear ensembles from throughout the
district-all bands and choirs perform from all four junior high schools.
To provide feedback and suggestions from outside the district high level content-area experts
for continued musical growth and quality.
Benefits:
Contributes towards alignment of the Band and Choral programs.
Provides validity to local assessments and curriculum.
Helps to maintain and improve the quality of the music program as the district grows.
Fosters a strong collegial relationship among music directors.
Provides a showcase of our music program for the parents and community.
Who:
Each band and choir from each junior high school (6th, 7th, 8th)
What:
Each group will perform three selections from high quality middle school repertoire
representing varied styles, genres and composers
Format:
Each ensemble is scheduled into a Warm-up, Performance & Clinic time slot.
Each group will be evaluated with taped and written comments from a panel (3) of professional
educators. One adjudicator will provide a 25 minute clinic following each group’s performance.
The evaluation will provide comments only and will not reflect a rating or ranking.
Visual Arts:
The Junior High School Visual Arts teachers will also display student art work in the lobby and
performance areas of the Music Festival.
Reminders About Performances
Performances are a required part of participation in the Band Program and are graded events
Check in time students is 6:15 pm or 45 minutes before the performance start time)
Students should always arrive in full uniform: Black pants, all black shoes, black socks, band
shirt tucked in, appropriate and coordinated jewelry, hair accessories and nails
Any conflicts with performance dates must be communicated three weeks in advance for
student to receive an alternate assignment
Emergencies and illnesses must be communicated to Mrs. Maxwell immediately.
